A Limited Edition Prairie Shadows GP20C-ECO Locomotive painted for freelance model railroad Tennessee Southern!  

The Tennessee Southern is a great freelance model railroad created by Allen Whitaker in 2000...with the help of a few friends!  It is a gritty class one railroad that prides itself on customer service. The heritage of the railroad was initially a spinoff of Southern Railway and Louisville & Nashville lines. Which later in the timeline the railroad began to either merge or outright take over various shortlines and regional carriers. Thus expanding the railroad to operate in 12 states east of the Mississippi River and.

The headquarters are located in Knoxville, TN. The railroad follows various operating practices that of the Southern Railway, GM&O/ICG, and others. The railways primary commodities are; coal, aggregates, autos, steel, scrap, grain, plastics, textiles, forestry products, etc.  The railroad is very competitive in the trucking and intermodal market as well with access to many ports on former ACL and GM&O lines. The TS may be the smallest class one railroad but they are a competitive group challenging the other railroads with their "True Service" motto.

The TS operates two paint schemes 1. The Rocky Top paint scheme of Tennessee VOLS orange and black.  2. The Tuxedo that Southern Railway units wore proudly. This model is manufactured by Prairie Shadows featuring the striking Rocky Top scheme and would be a great addition for any freelance enthusiast!

About the Prototype: 

Delivered around 2013, these units were produced by EMD/Progress Rail from old GP-9 “donors”, but very few parts were reused from the original GP-9s.  Sporting a 2,000 HP 8-Cyl 710G3A prime mover; these locomotives feature a new frame, fuel tank, long hood and cab. The units also received rebuilt DOFASO trucks.

Canadian Pacific is the only railroad to place orders for these units; the first 30 units (2200-2229) began to arrive in early 2013. CP then placed two more additional orders around 2013-14; 40 units (2230-2269) and 60 units (2270-2329) bringing the total to 130 units.
